Girls Basketball

On Wednesday, January 17th the Tarriers continued their at home league battles against the Bellevue Christian Vikings. With some Viking players standing at 6’0″ and 6’2″ the girls had a tall order to deal with.
In the first quarter scoring between RubyJoy, Grace and Julia helped to keep the Tarriers in close proximity to the Vikings, only trailing by 3. But then the Vikings went on a 9-2 run in the second quarter to widen the gap.
After the halftime jump rope show, a short run looking in to the post at RubyJoy brought the score back within 6. But once again the Vikings went on another scoring run.
With her first basket back from injury, Lexi Leith helped bring the Tarriers within 11 with just 3:45 remaining in the game. But the surge of energy would not be strong enough to get the comeback win. The ladies fell 26-48 at the hand of the Vikings.
Once again, junior RubyJoy Pikes led the team with 14 points. Additional scorers include Grace Hanly (7), Julia Hanly (3), Lexi Leith 2 and Erica Julian 2.
The JV girls were also back in action against the Vikings from Bellevue. With all quarters available for each player, the girls were excited to play a full game with 5 players. The Tarriers kept the game close with a strong first quarter, despite trailing 8-12. Junior, Brenna Sclair worked hard to keep the pressure on the Vikings, and brought the girls within two, before Bellevue went on a scoring spree.
Unfortunately, the shots would not fall for the Tarriers in the 3rd quarter. Senior Cindy Li began to drive toward the basket and take a chance from the free throw line, but it would not be enough for the win. JV falls to Bellevue with a final score of 17-41. Cindy led all scorers with 7, Brenna Sclair with 6, Taiya Melsness with 2 and Hadassa Pritchett with 2.
